Many longtime users of QuarkXPress don’t know that since version 4 there’s been a feature that lets you delete all the colors that aren’t being used in the current Project. Here’s how to make use of it:

Choose Edit> Colors
From the Show popup menu, choose Colors Not Used

Press Command-A (Windows: Ctrl-A) to select all the colors in the Edit Colors dialog. You can also Shift-click to select a range of colors, or Command-click (Windows: Ctrl-click) to select discontiguous items.
Click the Delete button.

Pretty simple, huh? I think it would be more convenient if that feature were in the Colors palette, but Edit> Colors isn’t too bad…

Ron & Joe have been producing their Art Parts illustrations for many years, with great success. One set of collections that’s different from the others is their Letter Parts, and through the end of the year, they’re 50% off. These are photos of actual letter-shaped objects, with each collection containing 115 to 700 images in both hi- and low-resolution.

Their other whimsical and engaging drawn Art Parts are available in individual themed sets for $35 each. You may find the the new Green set useful for upcoming projects.

Their Faces set is also timeless.

If find it inspiring to just flip through their collection. Have a look at www.ronandjoe.com!

Badia Software’s BigPicture is one of my favorite XTensions, and now it’s available for QuarkXPress 8 as well as earlier versions. It really is “The Best Picture Manager“, as I referred it in this story from last year.

You can learn more about it at Badia’s website and in this article in X-Ray Magazine.

If you spend much time managing pictures in projects, BigPicture will definitely save your sanity as well as your time.
