Maybe it's a permissions problem. Have you tried rebuilding permissions (in Disk Utility)? Sometimes if I save it again in a different folder I can save more changes, but after I change the file another 2 times it locks again. I have files in my trash that won't go away when I empty the trash because they are locked. I don't want to go through a lot of saving and resaving to avoid this.
